The high-precision rotating gantry with a high rotation accuracy is a key technology for precisely controlling the beam of the superconducting proton therapy system to irradiate the lesion from different angles. The first full-circular (360 degrees) rotating gantry in China developed by Hefei CAS Ion Medical and Technical Devices Co., Ltd. completed overall assembly and testing in May 2018.
The 360° rotating gantry has a diameter of 10 meters and can achieve high-precision dynamic speed control within a 360° rotation range at 0.1-1rpm. The remote +/-0.1-degree rotation accuracy and errors such as equal center point ±0.5mm meet international advanced standards. Currently, it has successfully undergone steady-state ±360° rotation testing with dual motors, and the equal center point ±0.5mm error meets the design precision requirements.
As of today, the core components of the Hefei Superconducting Proton Therapy System have achieved full coverage of domestic production. A series of technological achievements, such as the high-precision rotating gantry, CBCT image-guided system, and energy selection segment completing beam tests and pre-assembly, have emerged successively. In addition, the design of the Hefei Superconducting Proton Therapy System has received several industrial design awards, including the China Red Star Design Award Grand Prize and the China Design Intelligent Manufacturing Award for Innovation.
The next step for the Hefei Superconducting Proton Therapy System project is to carry out system assembly, simultaneously advancing the CFDA registration of medical devices, and accelerating the localization and industrialization process.
