HFCIM Superconducting Proton Therapy System Takes a Giant Step with the Installation of 240 MeV Cyclotron

On May 26th, the superconducting cyclotron developed by Hefei CAS Ion Medical and Technical Devices Co., Ltd. (HFCIM) was installed at the Hefei Homemade Superconducting Proton Clinical Medical Center (Hefei Ion Medical Center Phase II), marking the commencement of the commissioning of whole system in the clinical center.

At 9:58 AM, a large crane slowly hoisted the superconducting proton cyclotron, lowering it steadily into the proton area of the Medical Center. The cyclotron, with a radius of 1.5m and weighing 70 tons, has an energy of 240MeV. The cyclotron can generate continuous waves and is characterized by high beam intensity and good stability, supporting new proton Flash therapy and pencil beam scanning technology. The cyclotron serves as the "heart" of the Hefei superconducting proton radiotherapy system.


The Hefei Domestic Superconducting Proton Clinical Medical Center project officially commenced in July 2022. The center, with over 9 months’ construction, is ready for the relocating, installation, and commissioning of domestic equipment. 

The center is equipped with Capro-X1 superconducting proton radiotherapy system developed by HFCIM, which includes 1 gantry room and 1 fixed-beam treatment room. The system features a 360° lightweight rotating gantry, a high-performance and high-precision energy selection system, and a CBCT image guidance system with the largest view field in China.

Next, Hefei superconducting proton radiotherapy system will undergo installation, commissioning, and equipment performance testing at the center. All parties involved will continue to collaborate, efficiently driving the system to enter clinical application as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, HFCIM will actively play the leading role in the innovation of high-end medical equipment, aiming to establish a radiotherapy platform and a proton therapy system research and industrialization platform that meet world-class standards. This initiative is intended to drive the high-quality development of China's high-end medical equipment industry.
